Doors in FiveM MLOs: how to make them open and sit cleanly
A door that will not open, a gap next to the leaf, a double door with both handles on the outside: doors are the most common flaw in custom MLOs. Here is what causes it and how to get it right.

The short answer: a door in an MLO only opens if it is a real door model from GTA and is attached to the portal of its opening. If it also sits centred in an opening as wide as the leaf, it looks right too. Everything else, from gaps to doors you can only walk through, comes from one of these two points.
Why doors do not open
- No door model: a normal prop that looks like a door stays a wall. GTA only moves archetypes defined as doors.
- Not in the portal: the door must be attached to the portal of its opening, otherwise it belongs to no room and physics and visibility go haywire.
- Wrong model: doors that only exist inside vanilla interiors crash a custom MLO. Only use doors that also appear freely in the world.
Why doors sit crooked or with a gap
GTA door leaves have their hinge at the model origin, not in the middle. Put a door on the middle of the opening and it shifts by half a leaf. Then there is the grid: a one metre opening is too narrow for a 0.83 m leaf plus wall thickness, a two metre one leaves air on both sides. The clean fix: make the opening as wide as needed, put the leaf centre on the centre of the opening, and close the rest on both sides with wall pieces.
Double doors: handles to the middle
A double door only looks real when both hinges sit on the outside and both handles meet in the middle. If the model has a counterpart (names ending in _l and _r), one goes left and the other right. If not, the same leaf is turned 180 degrees for the second side. From about 1.4 times the leaf width a double door beats a single leaf with a big gap.
How it works in 5MC Forge
- In the interior editor choose the Door tool. The list only shows real door leaves that a custom MLO can handle, with width and height.
- Move over a wall: a yellow outline shows exactly where the leaf will go before you place it. The door always sits centred in the opening you see.
- If the opening is too narrow it is widened to fit; Forge closes leftover gaps with wall. Wide openings get a double door with hinges on the outside.
- A click places the door, R flips the swing side. The lintel moves to the height of the door so no hole is left above it.
- On build Forge attaches every leaf to the portal of its opening. On the test server the door then opens like in the game.

Frequently asked questions
Why can I just walk through my MLO door?
Usually it is not a real door model or it is not attached to the portal of its opening. Then the moving door's collision is missing. A GTA door leaf registered in the portal fixes both.
Can I use any door from GTA?
No. Doors that only exist in vanilla interiors crash a custom MLO. Forge does not offer such models at all and warns during the check if one is in the project.
How do I make a door lockable?
With your framework's doorlock script. Enter the door's model name and position there; Forge shows both in the prop view.
