How to build an MLO with Forge
Create a project
Start empty or take an original GTA interior as a template, such as a mansion, the Mission Row police station or the Pacific Standard Bank.
Paint the floor plan
Paint the floor on a grid, place walls, doors, windows and passages. Add levels up and down, stairs, ramps and elevators.
Furnish
Place catalogue props on floors, on tables, against walls and under the ceiling. Add lights, signs, parking spots and peds as scenery.
Validate and build
The check finds doors inside walls and furniture facing the wall. One click builds the resource with stream and stream_enhanced or puts it straight onto your test server.
What an MLO is and what it takes
An MLO is an interior you can walk into in GTA V. Technically it consists of several files: the ytyp describes rooms, portals and the props inside, the ymap places the interior in the world, the ybn is the collision, plus models and textures for floor, walls and ceiling and an fxmanifest.lua so the server loads everything. The classic way is modelling in Blender or 3ds Max and maintaining rooms and portals in CodeWalker afterwards.
Forge takes a different route: you draw the floor plan and Forge generates the shell, rooms, portals and collision itself. You furnish with the props that already ship with the game. How the files work together in detail is explained in our article Create a FiveM MLO without 3ds Max.
What the interior editor does
- Grid floor plan with walls, doors, windows and passages. Openings without a door leaf get a door automatically when building, a double door from 1.5 m width.
- Floors and basements with their own room height, stairs, drivable ramps for underground car parks and elevators through every level.
- A props catalogue with around 32,000 models from GTA V, with previews, search and categories. Your own models come in as OBJ.
- Lights based on the game's own values, illuminated signs, glass panes, parking spots with a vehicle and peds as scenery.
- Hide areas of the original map so your interior has room there.
- With the 5mc_forge_ingame resource you place the interior in the game as a hologram and see changes after a second, without rebuilding.
GTA templates as a starting point
Not every MLO has to start from scratch. The “From GTA template” window lists the game's original interiors under readable names, filtered by type: homes and mansions, police and government, shops and leisure, companies and workshops and more. Forge takes over floor, walls, door openings and furniture as a project that you then rebuild freely.
Faster with AI
In every Forge plan your own Claude can operate the interior editor via MCP: create the floor plan, furnish rooms by recipe, validate and build. You see every step in the editor right away and can continue by hand at any time. More on Build an MLO with AI.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need 3ds Max or Blender for an MLO?
No. Forge builds the shell, rooms, portals and collision from your floor plan and furnishes with props from GTA V. You only need Blender if you want to bring in your own models as OBJ.
Does the MLO run on FiveM Enhanced?
Yes. Next to the stream folder Forge creates stream_enhanced, converted with Alchemist, the official Cfx converter. If an object in the interior exists only in Enhanced, the build tells you the MLO only runs on Enhanced servers.
What does Forge not generate for MLOs?
Forge does not generate interior audio zones, occluders or LOD chains. You can enter a timecycle per room by name.
Can I look at the MLO in game before building?
Yes. With the 5mc_forge_ingame resource you open the /forge window in GTA and place the interior in the world as a hologram. Changes in Forge show up there after a second.
